The Paleo (or, Paleolithic) Diet, also known as the Caveman Diet, Primal (paleo with full fat quality dairy), Real Food Diet, and MVF which stands for Meat-Vegetables-Fat is an increasingly popular dietary approach. As the variety of names would suggest, there are many different ways to interpret and apply paleo principles but in its simplest terms, the Paleo diet is a lifestyle based on the eating habits of our hunter gatherer ancestors.

While we can’t know exactly what our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate, in principle Paleo is about eating similar whole foods that were found in nature millions of years ago. Foods from the land like meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, and from open waters like fish and shellfish, form the basis of the menu. These foods are nutrient-dense and free from unpronounceable manufactured modern ingredients that have an inflammatory effect on the body.

By removing man-made foods such as wheat flour, industrial seed oils, refined sugar, grains, dairy, and soy from our diet, we reduce the risk of the most prevalent diseases of our civilization, such as heart disease, cancer, obesity, autoimmune diseases, and diabetes. But we also reap the benefits on a daily basis through better quality sleep, more energy, sharper concentration, balanced moods (a bonus parents will say a prayer of thanks for in children) and of course, we look better.
